Many of these have their workplace at sea, in the oil & gas, maritime sector, fisheries or in the seafood/aquaculture industry. In addition, there are thousands who daily travel on the sea in pleasure boats, aboard ferries or as rescue personnel.
Small is dangerous
300 Norwegians have lost their lives at sea in the period 1990-2017. Fishermen have the most dangerous job in Norway. Fishermen operating alone onboard small fishing vessels are 6-7 times more at risk than crew onboard industrial trawlers and accounts for 66% of all fatalities in the fishing fleet. One can never guarantee against accidents at sea like capsizing, accident, collision or other accidents. The right equipment in such situations is crucial.
